Transformation: As I was walking through a local wood yesterday afternoon (just on the Devon – Cornwall border) the canopy of luminescent green beech leaves overhead struck such a chord within me. I noticed how the mood of the moment was affected by this “beech ceiling” most and more than anything else. And not only for myself drifting through this magical realm, but of the dappled light cast through it’s leaves upon the bluebells covering the floor; how the canopy held in the scents within the warm air; of ramsoms and bluebells and the sweet aroma of pine wafting down from the slopes above: How this dappled shade allowed a gentle breeze yet sheltered the woodland below from either strong wind or rain, and how the dappled light encouraged certain plant growth: The ‘prehistoric’ ferns just uncurling now always catch my attention at this time, appearing to me so much like alien heads with their red and ochre hues. . . . . . . . . . . . .
Healing: So to the beech tree we shall now return. . . . I have spent many hours of my life working with her and think of her now as an old friend and guardian. “Fagus sylavtica” for those of you who speak latin! “Mother of the Woods” is too one of her names: I can see why, her graceful limbs cast out so elegantly providing sanctuary for so many.
“Trees are able to assist us with healing and transformation, if we would take the time to listen”
“Vibrational Essences are another way of tuning into the plants themselves”
The energy of the beech tree has the special capacity of ‘holding the space’, the one who can hold you safe and secure so that you can learn and grow, or dare to push your own boundaries a little further. A wise teacher indeed is this tree. Although not a true native it has been here so long and, indeed, seems to ‘fit’ so well that it could almost be considered one. “Self-awareness” is, if you think about it, an important part of any endeavor and is something that we all need develop and carefully nurture. Working with the beech, among other tree energies, fosters this awareness, and assists one in creating a safe space for healing and personal transformation alike. Working with a tree directly cannot be more beautiful. Although it is my opinion that regular deep contact is needed for any lasting changes, be it within healing or self-awareness, to be experienced. This is why using vibrational essences (or flower essences as they are also known) is so key. An essence of the tree or plant can be made and kept with you to be used daily to ‘tune in’ to the tree energy itself. Try this for a week and the go back to visit the tree and experience how much clearer to contact can be.
A summary of the qualities of beech tree essence
1. Grace – an appreciation of both oneself and one’s place in things; a delicate touch in all things; treat the world lightly and it will treat you lightly in return!
2.Wisdom – finding and going deeper into one’s own innate wisdom, tuning into collective wisdom stored within us, learning the correct manner to learn and access wisdom form the world around you, be it from people, trees, or a book!
3.New horizons – seeing things clearly, new outlooks, being open to new experiences, very much like the energy of early summer. - also the energy of water, in being flexible and fluid in order to move on, change yourself and change your ways to enter into new relationships and new experiences.
Working and playing with trees is a wonderful way to learn about the natural world can result in ‘out of this world’ experiences. It is my hope that this article will inspire you to go out and do the same.
